Duck laid eggs on my apartment balcony?

I just discovered a mallard duck that has laid eggs in my planter on my balcony patio. I'm concerned her ducklings may not be able to make their first jump off my patio as I'm 5 stories high! Help!! Is it common for mommy ducks to lay eggs so high up?? Is it common for the ducklings to take their first jump from that high up?? I'm sure mommy duck knows best but I'm still worried!!
