Our Mallards have just laid eggs but the mother does not stay on the eggs all the time. Will the chicks die?

Your Mallard will not sit her eggs till she has laid hr full clutch 6-12 eggs then she will sit them , the reason for this is that she wants all her ducklings to hatch at the same time, so until she has laid her clutch, keep well away or she may dessert them
