Why does my mallard duckling have a really short neck?

There is a mallard duckling i see once a week at the park but i noticed its neck is too short and its difficult for it to pick up food or drink water. I decided to take it home since i already own one and i figured i would take care of it because i don't want it to die from starvation. Is this common? what should i do? it seems to have lots of trouble picking things off the ground and its like the duckling cant control what its doing when trying to pick something up, its head goes down but for some reason it raises its body up. It's so weird.
